How to Make Your Own Applique Embroidered Card - Tutorial!
Mother's Day is coming up...
And I always like to finish off my gifts with a handmade card to mom. Usually I stamp something out when I decide to make her a custom embroidered card. But this year, I had this little finch that inspired me for my card. It was so fast and easy to do as the bird is appliqued.
Here is what you will need
- Sweet Finch Applique
- Medium weight cut away stabilizer
- A variety of fabrics
- 4" x 4" (102mm x 102mm) hoop
- One panel 4" x 5.5" (102mm x 140mm) card stock
- Tattered rose distress ink and ink felt pad
- Pinking shears
- Clear drying glue
- Applique Scissors
- Red erasable pen
Here is How to Make It (Video Available at End of Article)
Step 1
Start by gathering your supplies. Hoop your fabric then stitch outline #1. I chose a pretty yellow polka dot fabric. The first layer of the Finch Applique will be placed onto your background fabric. Next lay down the fabric that will be your bird. I chose a fabric that complemented the fabric with soft yellows, oranges and white in a swirl pattern.
Step 2
Once stitched, trim away the excess fabric. Then stitch out the rest of your pattern. The little heart on his tummy is appliqued as well, so you will need to choose another fabric for this, stitch and trim again. I chose a pretty red fabric with little flowers for the heart.
Step 3
Once the finch is fully stitched. Pull him out of the hoop. Next measure and mark with your pen around the bird a 3.5" by 5” (89mm x 127mm) rectangle. I used my clear ruler that has amazing lines to align everything with. Very easy to see what you are doing to align all. Trim on those cut lines with pinking shears. Next, distress your 4" x 5.5" (107mm x 140mm) panel with the distress ink. Layer the bird on top of panel. Adhere together. Measure another panel of card stock, 8.5" x 6.25" (216mm x 159mm), score and fold in half. Layer all together and glue in place. Finish with ribbon and bow.
